Do You Wish You were Different?

I have teamed up with Daughter of Delight to write a devotional once each week. It will appear first on Daughter of Delight and Instagram, but I will also post them here.

Do you ever wish you were different? I do. My twisted logic has convinced me that if I were more type A, all my problems would be solved. As a type A, I would be more ambitious and disciplined. My house would be cleaner, I would be a better cook, I would have more drive to start a business, and I would be in better shape. If I had more perfectionism, more drive, and more focus, I would be better. But, God did not design me this way. He intentionally made me and has given me what I need to lead, and it is wrong for me to wish I were different. It takes away from the beauty God has created in me. When I wish to be different I am saying “God, I doubt what you’ve created, and I don’t trust you to bring good from this mess I am.

But God is bigger than my wish list of desirable qualities and is stronger than my desire to have a different personality. God didn’t mess up, and I am not inadequate. I am what I am for the plan He has laid out.

Moses was one of the greatest leaders in history, yet when he started, he didn’t believe he was qualified. In Exodus 4:10-12 God asked him to speak, and he said “ …‘O my Lord, I am not eloquent…but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.’ So the Lord said to him, ‘Who has made man’s mouth?... Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.’” Moses did not believe he was the guy God wanted carrying out His plan. However, God called Moses to lead because He created Moses for it. Just like God knows you can do what He has called you to do because he created you specifically for your purpose.

So, the next time you find yourself wallowing in feelings of inadequacy and doubt, remember, God created you for His plan. He has qualified you and He will teach you to follow Him.
