I have teamed up with Daughter of Delight to write a devotional once each week. It will appear first on Daughter of Delight and Instagram, but I will also post them here.
In Matthw 14:22-33, Jesus and Peter walk on water.
I mean, wow. How cool is that? For a few minutes, Peter had superpowers. But then, he got scared, lost faith, and started sinking.
It’s easy for us to look at Peter and think, “What a waste!” But you know what? We do the same thing every day. We take a step of faith and something really cool starts to take shape. But then the wind comes along and we get scared, lose faith, and start sinking, just like Peter.
Matthew 14:31 says, “Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’”
Yeah, Peter, why did you doubt? I mean, Jesus was right there. But Peter reminds us that he doubted for the same reason you doubt how God is working in your life now.
Jesus is right in front of you, holding out His hand, and asking you to take a step of faith. He’s asking you to do the impossible. He’s asking you to walk on water with Him. Not by yourself, but alongside your Savior.
In the song “Oceans” by Hillsong, they sing, “Spirit, lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever You would call me..” and I would add, let us not be afraid of the wind. Let us focus on our Lord and not doubt, for He is with us. He’s calling us to something supernatural. So believe, and step out onto the waters, wherever He may call you.
